For my Illustration Topics class. Given the theme “disappear,” we were to create an illustration in any media. I chose to do an illustration aimed at children. When I was young, no one really told me that some animals (or plants) ate other animals, and that death was a part of it all. It wasn’t until I watched mildly-traumatizing nature programming that I knew. This illustration would be a good talking point with younger children. It is an interactive piece; the leaf-top of the pitcher plant folds up, and the viewer can pull a poison dart frog in and out of the plant.

Cut paper, coloured pencil, matte medium, ink. 8" x 16" at largest point. September 2011.
